crcCARE organised its 4th Risk to Remediation Masterclass 2023 from 1-5 May 2023 in Newcastle.

This all-inclusive five-day course provided participants with the cutting-edge skills to manage and remediate contaminated sites in Australia and globally.

The course was developed in response to the critical need to build capacity to address the growing global contamination crisis. While technical lessons were learned through the study of past projects, an advantage of this course was the semi-structured discussions, problem-solving and personal interactions that allowed participants to consider the many facets of modern contaminant site assessment and remedial design. The course also discussed aspects of sustainable low-impact remediation approaches, climate change considerations, policy and regulatory matters, and economic considerations – all within the context of gaining and maintaining a social licence to operate.

The masterclass was attended by 60 delegates from Australia and overseas.

There was a significant presence of delegates from Petronas, Malaysia and Universiti Kebangsaan and delegates covered a range of sectors including:

  • Department of Defence
  • Regulators (EPA Vic and Tasmania)
  • Federal government
  • Consultants and Practitioners
  • Academics
  • Scientists
  • Researchers
  • Early career professionals

The course provided excellent networking opportunities by way of optional evening sessions such as a movie night, equipment and techniques demonstrations, poster presentations, and a contaminated site/analytical lab tour.

The Masterclass 2023 also provided up to 72 hrs of CPD points along with a certificate of attendance to all registered participants.

Our 5th Risk to Remediation Masterclass 2024 is scheduled for May 2024 and dates and venue will be revealed soon.
